Meet Jim Montanye

Meet Jim Montanye, a veterinary technician at Montclair Veterinary Associates with 38 years of experience caring for animals across Northern New Jersey.

Jim Montanye

Jim Montanye grew up in Bergen County and has worked as a veterinary technician for 38 years. He has spent that time in both emergency medicine and general practice, so he has seen nearly everything that can come through a clinic door, from a puppy’s first vaccines to a pet that needs to be stabilized fast.

Throughout his career, Jim has worked closely with many of Northern New Jersey’s top veterinarians and technicians. Today he brings that experience to our Montclair clinic, working alongside Dr. Cory Waxman to care for Montclair-area dogs and cats.

Experience That Goes Well Beyond Cats and Dogs

Jim’s hands-on experience is not limited to household pets. Over nearly four decades he has worked with dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, wildlife, farm animals, and zoo animals. Each of those species has to be handled and read differently, and very few veterinary staff ever work with all of them.

That range is useful in ordinary appointments too. A frightened animal shows it in small ways, whatever the species, and recognizing those signals early is a big part of keeping a visit calm, whether your pet is in for a routine exam, vaccinations, or bloodwork.

A Lifelong Pet Owner With a Farm Full of Rescues

Looking after that many animals at home gives Jim a practical, owner's-eye view of pet care: feeding routines, medication schedules, and the everyday work of keeping animals healthy. When he talks with you about your pet's care, the advice comes from someone who does the same work at home every day.

Jim has been a pet owner his entire life, and his work with animals does not stop when he leaves the clinic. He lives on his own rescue farm, where he cares for 7 dogs, 5 cats, a rabbit, a ferret, 2 guinea pigs, 2 horses, 3 pigs, 15 goats, a sheep, 50 chickens, an African grey parrot, a canary, 5 peacocks, 4 pheasants, and a tortoise.
