Your pet deserves a veterinarian who takes the time to listen, examine thoroughly, and explain every option before moving forward. At Montclair Veterinary Associates, that level of attention is not an exception. It is how we approach every single appointment.
Led by Dr. Cory Waxman, DVM, a University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine graduate and Montclair resident, our practice provides comprehensive veterinary services for dogs and cats throughout Essex County.
Whether your pet needs a routine wellness exam, a dental cleaning, diagnostic blood work, or soft tissue surgery, we deliver personalized treatment plans built around your pet’s individual health needs.
A Different Approach to Pet Care
The difference at Montclair Veterinary Associates starts with time. We spend more time with each patient than most practices in Northern NJ, and that is a deliberate choice. Every appointment includes a thorough physical examination, a clear explanation of findings, and an honest conversation about the best next steps for your pet, whether that means advanced diagnostics, a conservative approach, or a referral to a board-certified surgeon when something falls outside our scope.
Dr. Waxman’s background in zoo medicine and conservation research at Northwestern University and UPenn, including work with endangered canine and feline species, gives him a broader lens on animal health than most general practitioners. That depth of knowledge shapes how our team evaluates unusual symptoms, interprets lab results, and develops treatment plans. We also strongly encourage pet insurance and take the time to educate owners on coverage options, helping families budget for unexpected medical needs before they arise.
Why Choose Montclair Veterinary Associates
Montclair pet owners have options, and choosing the right veterinary practice matters. Here is what sets us apart.
Locally owned by a Montclair resident
Dr. Waxman lives in the same community he serves. This is not a corporate chain or an absentee-owned clinic. When you walk in, you are trusting your pet to a neighbor who has deep roots in Montclair and a personal stake in the reputation of this practice.
More time with every patient
We deliberately schedule longer appointments so your pet gets a thorough exam and you get clear, unhurried answers to every question. We do not rush through visits or push unnecessary treatments.
In-house diagnostics & same-day results
Our lab runs complete blood counts, chemistry panels, and rapid tests for heartworm, Lyme disease, pancreatitis, and more without sending samples to an outside lab. Faster results mean faster answers and earlier treatment when it counts.
Higher standards for surgical care
We use more expensive, safer anesthetic drugs and more thorough pre-surgical testing than many practices. Our spay and neuter protocols include comprehensive blood work and extended monitoring because cutting corners on safety is not something we are willing to do.

Our Latest 5-Star Reviews
What to Expect During Your Visit
We want every visit to feel straightforward and stress-free, for you and your pet. When you arrive at our Montclair office, our front desk team will welcome you and get you checked in. If you are a new client, we ask that you complete the new patient form ahead of time so we can spend more of your appointment focused on your pet.
During the exam, Dr. Waxman or a member of our veterinary team will perform a full nose-to-tail physical examination, review your pet’s medical history, discuss any concerns you have noticed at home, and recommend any diagnostics or preventive care your pet may need. We never rush. You will leave with a clear understanding of your pet’s health status and a plan for next steps, whether that is a follow-up blood panel, a dental cleaning, a vaccination update, or simply a clean bill of health.
Our office at 63 Park Street has a free, private parking lot directly on-site with spaces wrapping around the building. The lot is set back from street traffic, includes ADA-accessible handicapped spaces in front of the entrance, and has two EV charging stations, so getting your pet in and out is safe and stress-free.
Pet Insurance and Payment Options
We strongly encourage all pet owners to explore pet insurance while their pet is young and healthy. Modern pet insurance plans typically cover 70 to 90 percent of eligible veterinary costs after the deductible, including diagnostics, surgery, chronic illness management, and emergency care. Dr. Waxman takes time during appointments to educate owners on how insurance works and why early enrollment matters.
We accept all major credit cards and can provide detailed invoices for pet insurance reimbursement. If you have questions about payment or how to prepare financially for your pet’s care, our team is happy to walk you through your options.
