Meet Dr. Cory Waxman
Meet Dr. Cory Waxman — a Bergen County native whose lifelong love for animals led him from local shelter volunteering to founding Montclair Veterinary Associates.
Dr. Cory Waxman is the veterinarian behind Montclair Veterinary Associates, and his love for animals didn’t start in vet school. It started long before that, while he was growing up in Bergen County, New Jersey, where he spent his free time volunteering at animal shelters. That early calling never left him.
Dr. Waxman went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Northwestern University, then pursued his passion through one of the most respected veterinary programs in the country, graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He has been caring for pets in Northern New Jersey since 2011.
From Animal Shelters to Ivy League Veterinary Training
What sets Dr. Waxman apart is the breadth of experience he brought to companion animal medicine before ever opening his doors to the Montclair community. While completing his studies, he delved deeply into zoo medicine and wildlife conservation, interning at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, where he worked hands-on with giraffes, lions, camels, and endangered birds.
He also contributed to the “Noah’s Ark” Project at both Northwestern and UPenn, conducting research focused on developing artificial reproduction methods for endangered canine and feline species. It’s the kind of work that requires not just scientific precision, but a genuine reverence for the animal world, something that continues to define his approach to practice today.
A Vet Who Treats Your Pet Like His Own
Dr. Waxman's reputation across Northern New Jersey isn't just built on credentials. Veterinary staff who have worked alongside him consistently speak to how much he genuinely cares about the animals he treats and about the people who love them. He takes the time to work collaboratively with pet owners, making sure they feel informed, heard, and confident in the care their pets receive.
He is a pet owner himself, sharing his home with two dogs and two cats, which means he understands firsthand what it means to have a trusted veterinarian in your corner. Whether your pet is coming in for a routine wellness visit, a new puppy exam, or something that's had you worried, Dr. Waxman approaches every appointment with the same thoroughness and warmth that has made Montclair Veterinary Associates a trusted home for pets throughout the area.
